How to Get More Rune Pages in League of Legends

If you’re playing League of Legends, you have realized that there’s a lot to unravel before you even join a match. The game starts in the main client, where you set up your rune pages and prepare for potential matchups. Runes are a vital part of the game and can turn a tide in your favor by providing you with various benefits as the game progresses.

How to Get More Rune Pages in League of Legends

Suppose you want to have an easier time during the short champion selection process, you can use additional rune pages to get a wider variety of bonuses without needing to edit them.

In this article, we’ll explain how to get more rune pages and your best options and habits for using runes in League of Legends.

How to Get More Rune Pages in League of Legends

Most players start with three rune pages, with an extra five pages predetermined by the developers that can’t be changed. New players can’t edit rune pages at all, and the three pages they receive are only unlocked at summoner level 10. If you want to obtain more pages to have a wider customization pool, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Log in to the League of Legends client.
  2. Click on the “Store” icon on the top right. It looks like three stacks of coins, and is direct to the left of your current in-game currency balances.
  3. Click on the “Accessories” tab in the store’s main menu.
  4. Select “Rune Pages” from the menu on the left.
  5. You can select between purchasing an additional page for either Blue Essence or RP. Alternatively, you can buy a seven-page bundle with RP.
  6. Once you’ve purchased a rune page, you can access it through your collection menu:

If you play on the Garena server, there’s another option to get additional rune pages by spinning the wheel on the Garena mobile app, “Garena Spin”. It might produce a rune page. It’s also the only way to get a rune page without spending any currency but is limited to a single server.

How Much Does a Rune Page Cost

If you are buying rune pages one at a time, it will cost you 6300 Blue Essence (BE) or 590 RP. Alternatively, you can purchase a bundle of seven rune pages for 2600 RP, for an effective 37% discount.

Blue Essence is the game’s primary (and free) in-platform currency. You get BE daily by winning a game and receiving the appropriate mission reward (currently 200 BE), or you can create BE by disenchanting champion shards or other items in the loot section.

On the other hand, RP (previously known as Riot Points) is a premium currency you’ll need to purchase with real money. Prices change depending on your server, country, the purchase amount, and payment method (for example, mobile payments are less efficient than credit cards).

To get 590 RP, North American users (including the USA) can pay $5 for 650 RP. Alternatively, they can pay $20 for 2800 RP, which will be enough to purchase a rune page bundle.

How Many Rune Pages Can You Have in League of Legends

Each account has a maximum limit of 25 rune pages. This limit doesn’t include the five rune presets, bringing the total to 30 rune pages accessible in the rune selection menu.

How to Rename Rune Pages

When you make a new rune page, it’ll be named by default, such as “New Rune Page X.” However, in the thick of the champion selection, most players prefer to have runes named according to the champion or role they’re playing, or the strategy they’re using in the upcoming match.

To this end, renaming the rune pages allows you to be more efficient and prevent accidental selections when you go into a match equipped with a wrong rune page.

Here’s how to rename a rune page in the client:

  1. Open the “Collection” tab by clicking on the backpack icon on the top bar.
  2. Select the “Runes” tab on the top menu.
  3. Click on the rune page you want to rename.
  4. Click on the “Edit” button on the top left. It looks like a pen (or a crayon) with a line next to it.
  5. Type in the new name in the text field, then press Enter to confirm the change.

Alternatively, you can rename a rune page in the middle of the champion selection, although it’s usually much better to leave such trivialities for outside of the game:

  1. Open the rune selection dropdown menu.
  2. Select the rune page you want to edit.
  3. Click on the “Edit” button on the top left.
  4. Change the name to the one you want, then press Enter to confirm it.

What Do Runes Do in League of Legends?

Runes augment your champion by providing bonuses that can orient you to a particular playstyle or level the playing field in a more challenging matchup. For example, squishy champions (those with a smaller health pool) can benefit from runes that provide defensive boosts, such as more armor or magic resistance. On the other hand, champions that focus on removing enemies swiftly can opt for runes that increase their damage potential or allow them more freedom of movement.

The keystone can have a significant effect on how you play a champion. Selecting a keystone will usually guide the rest of your rune choices, and champions typically have one or two keystone runes that provide the most benefit to their optimal play pattern.

Are Rune Pages Important?

Rune pages are one of the most critical aspects of preparing a strategy for a game. A small change in your rune choices can have a profound effect on the game’s outcome. Most LoL statistics websites have access to Riot’s API, including a database of rune pages used for champions and their respective win rates. Changing from unoptimized rune pages to a more streamlined one can increase your victory percentage on a champion massively.

Different runes impact the game at various points. Most runes are tailored to give you a small benefit at the start of the game, but these bonuses can quickly stack if you streamline a page to give a bunch of such bonuses. On the other end of the spectrum, some runes give almost zero benefits at the start and take a while to ramp up but become much more noticeable as the game progresses.

Learning which runes work with different champions is a natural progression of a player as they get more involved in the game.

How Many Rune Pages Do You Have in League of Legends?

Rune pages carry a lot of customization. With the currently available selection of runes (February 2021), there are a total of 1,333,584 possible unique rune page configurations, including all possible keystones, minor runes, and shards.

Should I Buy Rune Pages in League of Legends?

The decision to buy rune pages can boil down to your experience with the game and how familiar you are with the possible options. If you don’t want the hassle of changing rune pages in the middle of the champion selection process, then purchasing additional ones and loading them with your favorite options is a viable strategy. More rune pages also mean you can preload some general selections and make minor changes as you go instead of remaking a page from scratch for every champion selection.

Do I Need More Than 1 Rune Page?

The best part about rune pages is that you really only need one page! Yes, you heard that correctly. The first three pages you receive are all you’ll ever need. It can even be better if you don’t buy additional rune pages.

All players get the option to change their rune selection in the champion picking phase.

Experienced players know the most efficient rune pages and can just make quick changes to their currently selected page. The ability to customize your rune page on the go brings an additional benefit of paying more attention to the process and preventing mishaps of choosing the wrong runes to start the match. Be quick about changing runes, though, as the champion selection won’t wait for you!

Reforge Your LoL Gameplay With Runes

With efficient runes at your disposal, you can be sure to have all the advantage you need to win a match in League of Legends. Additional rune pages make it faster to make sweeping changes. However, it’s still advisable to take a look at the rune page you’ve selected to see if you can make a smaller change that may have a significant impact in the early game.
