How to Disable Guest Mode on Chrome on Windows?

    REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome /v BrowserGuestModeEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0
  6. Paste it in the Command prompt.
  7. Press “Enter” on your keyboard.
  8. Turn off Chrome and your computer.

The next time you launch Chrome and go to your profile picture in the upper-right corner. The Guest mode option will no longer be there.

How to Re-Enable?

If you change your mind, or if you want to switch the Guest mode option back on later, you can re-enable it in a few quick steps. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Go to the magnifying glass icon and type in “Command prompt.”
  2. Right-click on the program and choose “Run as administrator.”
  3. Copy this command:
    REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome /v BrowserGuestModeEnabled /f
  4. Paste it in the Command prompt.
  5. Press “Enter.”
  6. Restart your computer.

Next time you open Chrome on your computer, you will see the Guest mode option when you right-click on your profile picture in the upper-right corner of your window.

  5. Paste it into the Registry Editor’s address bar.
  6. Press “Enter.”
  7. Double-click on the “Chrome” folder in the left sidebar.
  8. Right-click on the right side of the Registry Editor (where there is blank space).
  9. Click “New” and then “DWORD (32-bit) Value.”
  10. Rename the file as “BrowserGuestModeEnabled.”
  11. Double-click on the file – A new tab will pop up.
  12. Type in “0” in “Value data.”
  13. Select “Ok.”
  14. Restart your computer.

That’s all there is to it. You have successfully disabled the Guest mode option on Chrome.

Note: Before you use the Registry Editor, it’s always advised that you back up all your Registry Editor files. That way, if you paste the wrong commands and end up changing something else, you can always import the registry files.

To re-enable the Guest mode browsing option on Chrome, follow steps 1-11 from the previous section. When you get to the “DWORD (32-bit) Value” pop-up window, change the “0” in “Value data” back to “1.”

  9. Click “Add extension” and confirm – The extension will immediately be opened in a new window.
  10. Select “Next.”
  11. Type in your password.
  12. Click “Save.”

You can also add a hint for your password, in case you forget it. You can also add other features, such as a limit to how many times you can enter the password incorrectly.

Note: Don’t forget to disable this option for Incognito mode.

Now every time you open Google Chrome, a pop-up window will appear and ask you to type in your password.
