How to Fix the Comms in Among Us

Among Us was released in 2018 but gained traction in 2020 when many were forced to stay home. Left with a lot of free time on their hands, new players jumped into this game as an opportunity to connect with friends in a social who-dun-it mystery set in the stars.

How to Fix the Comms in Among Us

While the game graphics and premise may seem simplistic, it’s anything but. If you get a particularly crafty Imposter, they can wreak havoc on your map while you and your team scramble to correct sabotages before it’s too late.

One of the most common sabotages you’ll see is to the Comms. Find out what happens when your Comms is sabotaged and how to fix it on certain maps.

Sabotage Tasks: Fixing Comms in the Polus and the Skeld Maps

It’s happened. An imposter is among you!

Partway through your task, you go to check your task list only to see that dreaded message flash: “Comms Sabotaged.” You can’t see the task bar and your abilities are unusable. You’re at a crossroads and you have a choice. Do you continue to complete your tasks, or do you fix the comm sabotage?

If you’re on your last tasks, it may be worth it to go for it and finish your tasks to win the game. However, early and mid-game players need to get those Comms back up and how you go about it depends on which map you’re on.

The Skeld and Polus fixes are relatively similar and simple. If you need a refresher or if this is your first time fixing these Comms, follow the steps below:

  1. Go towards the arrow on the screen that appears after the Imposter sabotages the Comms. The arrow leads you to the Communications room.
  2. Walk to the central computer, highlighted in yellow in the lower part of your screen.
  3. The “Use” button is in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Click or tap it to start the fix.
  4. You’ll see two different wavelengths that don’t match and a dial. The dial can help you match the first wavelength signal to the second one. Turn the dial to sync them together.
  5. You’ll hear the audio clear up and the red light above the dial will turn green when the Comms are fixed.

Should You Prioritize Fixing Comms?

Most teams do because if they don’t, they lose access to abilities like:

  • Seeing your task locations
  • Seeing your task list
  • Monitoring the admin console
  • Monitoring the security cameras
  • Monitoring crew vitals
  • Monitoring door logs

These abilities are vital for surviving the game and potentially finding the Imposter, so most teams choose to fix Comms whenever they’re sabotaged. However, if you and your crew believe that you can complete the final task without access to those abilities described, you may want to go for it to win the game.

Sabotage Tasks: Fixing Comms in the MIRA HQ Map

If you’re unlucky enough to have your Comms sabotaged at the company base, you need to work in tandem with another crew member to get things running again, as “the fix” is in two separate locations. That’s not the only challenging part of this map, though.

At MIRA HQ, you can’t rely on monitors to deduce the Imposter, making it possible to sabotage, murder, and evade with more impunity. If your Imposter made their way to your Comms, this is how you fix it:

  1. Once the sabotage happens, you’ll see two arrows instead of one that points towards locations to fix the Comms. Follow the closest yellow arrow to your character. Hopefully, a crew member is doing the same for the other one.
  2. The yellow arrow will lead you to a room with a keypad. Go to the equipment that’s flashing yellow.
  3. When you get close to it, you’ll see a “Use” button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Click or tap that button to interact with it.
  4. Now it’s time to enter the backup code. Don’t worry, you don’t need to solve a puzzle to get the code. Just look to the side of the keypad and you’ll see “Back Up Code” with a series of digits. Enter these digits into the keypad but do it quickly! The code is set on a timer.
  5. Press or tap the green checkmark button in the lower-right corner of the keypad after you enter the code.

Sometimes you do everything right, get to the keypad in time, enter the backup code, and clear the sabotage, but nothing happens. Unfortunately, you need two crew members clearing the sabotage at the same time. If another player didn’t follow the other yellow arrow location to enter the backup code, the fix won’t work.

At this point, you’re left with two choices:

  • Wait and try to enter the backup code again.
  • Head to the other keypad and fix it yourself.

A good rule of thumb is to head to the other yellow arrow location if you see multiple crew members at your location. They’re probably trying to fix the Comms there, too, so it’s a good indicator that the situation is handled at this end and you’re free to check out the other keypad.

If you do end up at the keypad in the Communications room, odds are that you’ll find a few crew members there, ready to fix the problem. It’s one of the most easily accessible places on the map so it’s common that the crew simply ends up there whenever there’s a Comms problem at the HQ.

FAQs

What Is the Fastest Way to Fix Comms in Polus and Skeld?

When you fix Comms in maps like Polus and Skeld, most people know that they’re going to fiddle with a wavelength dial to match one to another. This can be time-consuming to get right and wastes valuable time where you could be completing tasks or uncovering your Imposter.

However, there’s a little shortcut that a lot of veteran players like to use when faced with Comms sabotage in these two maps. It looks like this:

1. Follow the arrows to go to the location to fix the Comms, as usual.

2. Click or tap on the yellow outlined equipment to interact with it.

3. When you see the dial box appear, you’re going to change your focus. Instead of looking at the wavelengths, you’re going to turn the dial quickly left and/or right. Look at the red light while you’re doing this. When you see the red light blink out, stop turning the dial. If you passed that point where the red light blinked out, simply turn the dial back and line it up to that point where the light goes out.

4. The Comms are fixed.

Keep in mind that this method doesn’t negate the need to match wavelengths or clear up the audio. You’re still doing that here, but when you focus on the red light instead of the wavelengths, that light gives you an indicator where the “sweet spot” is to line everything up. Once you line up the dial with that point where the red light went out, you’ll see the wavelengths and audio match up automatically.

Don’t Get Stumped by a Sabotage

Imposters may sabotage your equipment to buy themselves time, but there’s no reason why you need to give it to them. Get those Comms back up and running with the red-light trick or go enter in the other backup code yourself if you’re in HQ. The sooner you get Comms back up, the faster you can find the Imposter and eject them.

Has Comm sabotage on these maps stumped you in the past? Do you fix the sabotages yourself or rely on other crew members to do it? Let us know in the comments section below.
