How to Level Up Friendship in Genshin Impact

In Genshin Impact, there’s a large cast of characters you can have in your party. You can learn more about their pasts and lives by leveling up your Friendship. You even get some other rewards eventually.

How to Level Up Friendship in Genshin Impact

When playing Genshin Impact, wondering how to level up friendship is a common question. There are a few ways you can do that, and you’ll learn about them all here. We’ll also answer some frequently asked game questions.

What Is Friendship in Genshin Impact?

Friendship is a system in Genshin Impact that allows you to befriend your companions. There are many characters in the game you can make friends with, and miHoYo adds more characters as the game is updated. You gain Friendship Levels by getting Companionship EXP.

The higher your Friendship Level is with a certain character, the more you learn about them. They’ll eventually be comfortable enough with you to share their pasts and woes with you. Initially, you start at Level 1 and will cap out at Level 10 later on.

At the time of writing, Friendship Levels are used to unlock character stories, special lines in-game, and name cards. The rewards don’t grant you better weapons or boosts, but there’s no telling what miHoYo can implement in the future.

How to Level Up Friendship in Genshin Impact?

There are many ways you can gain Companionship EXP in the game, considering the large overworld and plenty of lore. You have seven main ways of leveling up your friendship. Each of them rewards you with differing amounts, so pick what’s the best for you.

The methods include:

Daily Commissions

Every day, you can do four Daily Commissions, and they’re randomized as to not be repetitive. All of them reward you with a significant amount of Companionship EXP; around 25-60 each. The amount is based on your Adventure Rank or AR.

To complete Daily Commissions, you must have an AR of Rank 12. Only then can you unlock the ability to play them. To unlock them, you have to talk to Katheryne, the Adventure’s Guild’s receptionist.

The Daily Commissions reset at 4 A.M. according to the server’s time. Not only will you get some Companionship EXP from them, but there are plenty of other rewards such as Mora and Primogems.

Daily Commission Bonuses

Depending on your AR, you also get an Adventure Treasure Pack, and within are T1 Character Ascension Materials, Mora, Adventure EXP, Primogems, and most importantly, Companionship EXP. The higher your AR is; the more rewards you get.

Starting from AR 12, you gain 45 Companion EXP, and AR 60 allows you to get 100 Companion EXP. Being at a lower level isn’t great for quick Friendship leveling, so you should rank yourself up as quickly as possible.

Ley Line Outcrops

These are challenges in the overworld that grant some rewards. You unlock Blossoms of Revelation at AR 8, granting you Adventure EXP and Companionship EXP. At AR 12, you can unlock Blossoms of Wealth, which replaces the Adventure EXP with Mora, but you still get Companion EXP.

In every nation, there are two outcrops. One will be a Blossom of Revelation, and the other a Blossom of Wealth. Completing either one will require you to spend 20 Original Resin or one Condensed Resin to revitalize the Ley Line Blossom. That’s how you get its rewards.

After revitalization, you can find another blossom in the same nation, albeit in a different region. If you don’t complete them, they will remain there until the daily reset.

Depending on your AR, you can get from 10 to 20 Companionship EXP a day. This isn’t the best method to farm Companionship EXP, but it still builds up eventually.

Forge Mystic Enhancement Ores With Magical Crystal Chunks

For every Mystic Enhancement Ore piece, you forge with the Crystal Chunks, you gain 10 Companionship EXP. There’s a 300,000 Weapon EXP limit of ore you can forge every day. After you reach that limit, you won’t be able to forge anymore.

One exception is the use of an Unlimited Recipe. As long as you have the materials and Mora to spend, you can forge as many Mystic Enhancement Ores as you want. The Unlimited Recipe only gives you 10 Companion EXP for six Ores, but it only takes five seconds.

Ultimately, this isn’t the best method to farm Companion EXP either, but you can at least get some when you’ve exhausted the other options. There’s no daily cap for Companion EXP after all.

Fight Bosses

You can say that fighting Bosses is the most exciting way to gain Companionship EXP. There are two types of bosses; Normal and Weekly Bosses. The latter grants you more Companion EXP, but are limited to being defeated three times before the weekly reset.

After you defeat a Normal Boss, you must spend 40 Original Resin to open the Trounce Blossom and claim the rewards. Your AP affects how much you get, from 30-45 Companionship EXP. Of course, there are other rewards as well.

Weekly Bosses are more difficult, but they yield more rewards. You spend 30 Original Resin initially, and 60 for each of the next two times to open their Trounce Blossoms. You can gain from 55-70 Companionship EXP from Weekly Bosses.

The Weekly Bosses also drop some useful rewards, such as Billets and Character Ascension Materials. However, what you get depends on your luck.

Completing Domains

Domains are very short challenges that you can find in temple-like entrances around the overworld. There are many rewards you can reap from completing them, including Primogems, all sorts of EXP, and Materials. Depending on the difficulty, a Domain can yield from 10-20 Companionship EXP.

Every Domain has three stages; each open three days a week. The third day always falls on Sunday. The first two stages can open on any other day of the week.

The exceptions to this rule are Trounce Domains, Spiral Abysses, One-Time Domains, and Story Domains. These have their own rules and rewards but may give you Companion EXP as well.

Completing Random Events

There are lots of Random Events to find within the overworld. They yield from 10-15 Companion EXP a day, with World Level 6 and above possibly giving you 15. These Random Events can be completed 10 times a day before the reset.

If you find one while roaming around, go ahead and clear one. They’re really easy to beat.

How to Level Up Friendship Fast on Genshin Impact?

The quickest methods to level up Friendship are doing your Daily Commissions, beating all the bosses you can, clearing Ley Line Outcrops, and tackling Domains. Forging can be quick with an Unlimited Recipe, but it’ll burn through your resources quickly.

Try to complete all you can every day. Since Normal Bosses respawn in a few minutes, fight them as many times as you want. This will help you gain a lot of Companionship EXP.
